Plot Synopsis
Based on the book by Abraham Verghese. In 1985, Dr. Abe Verghese, his wife and baby, return to the rural town of Johnson City, Tenn. after completing a fellowship in infectious diseases. Working at the Mountain Home Medical Center he begins seeing his first cases of AIDS. He begins to educate and calm fears about the disease while becoming drawn into the emotional lives of his terrified patients. Seeing that his work is taking a toll on his family he decides to move to a larger city and continue his research while attempting to rebuild his crumbling marriage.
