Plot Synopsis
Created and executive produced by series star Quinta Brunson, ABBOTT ELEMENTARY is a half-hour comedy series that centers on a group of dedicated, passionate teachers -- and a slightly tone-deaf principal -- who are brought together in a Philadelphia public school where, despite the odds stacked against them, they are determined to help their students succeed in life. Though these incredible educators may be outnumbered and underfunded, they love what they do -- even if they don't love the school district's less-than-stellar attitude toward educating children. ABC debuted the pilot as a sneak-peek episode on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 9:30pm ET/PT, with the official series premiere on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 9pm ET/PT on ABC.
The sophomore season of ABBOTT ELEMENTARY premiered on Tuesday, September 21, 2022 at 9pm ET/PT on ABC. The season opener, "Development Day," was written by series start and creator Quinta Brunson. The teachers are back at Willard R. Abbott Public School for development week, a time to prepare for the upcoming year before the students' first day of school. Post-breakup, Janine is determined to start the year off right and leave her problems at home. With this new outlook, she takes on organizing the faculty mixer and announces a special celebrity surprise she planned for the kids' first day. Meanwhile, Ava runs a side hustle out of the school parking lot and Gregory, now a full-time teacher, is in over his head with the curriculum. After a four-week break, ABBOTT ELEMENTARY returned with new episodes on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 on 9pm ET/PT on ABC. In the winter premiere, "Read-a-Thon," the competition heats up between Melissa and Janine as their classrooms go head-to-head in a read-a-thon sponsored by a local pizza shop. Both teachers encourage their students to hit the books hard but face some unexpected obstacles on their path to pizza glory. Meanwhile, Jacob and Gregory join forces and attempt to get their student-podcasting club off the ground.
Season 3 of ABBOTT ELEMENTARY debuted on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 with a double episode from 9-10pm ET/PT on ABC. In the season opener, "Career Day (Part 1); Career Day (Part 2)," it's a new year at Abbott Elementary, and Janine is as eager as ever. She plans a district-wide initiative -- Career Day -- and is anxious for it to be a success. Meanwhile, Ava has a new approach to her job, and Melissa is asked a surprising question.
