Plot Synopsis
ALASKAN STEEL MEN is a reality series the follows the crew at Quality Marine of Alaska (QMA), a company owned by Dennis and Theresa Butts, who deploy teams of welders, pipe fitters and marine experts to design, build, and repair equipment for Alaska's maritime fleet and oil and gas industries. Whether they're preparing Kodiak's fleet for a new fishing season, repairing a crack in the hull of the Marcy J. Can, or fixing a one-of-a-kind turbine part for Kodiak's only hydro-electric plant, these teams work against time and brave the elements to complete the jobs and avert disaster. Each 60-minute episode of this series features two or three jobs, with teams comprised of these men and women: Dennis, the team boss and a master welder with 20 years of experience, who is a strong and charismatic leader, inspiring his employees to push themselves beyond their limits; Theresa, Dennis' wife and QMA business manager, who is a tough negotiator and often loses her temper with clients and staff; Scottie, a perfectionist and Dennis' right-hand man, who can weld just about anything, but is often surly with impatient boat captains; Cooper, a former U.S. Marine, who comes back to his native Alaska to seek out big fortunes -- and holds the QMA record for shortest apprenticeship; Dean, a probationary worker and Scottie's nephew, who genuinely wants to be a welder but seems more prone to lighting himself on fire; Jameson, another probationary worker, who, as the son of a fisherman, has never left Kodiak and is always looking for some trouble; Duke, the team's diver and underwater welder, who is willing to take on any challenge; and George, the pipe fitter, who is the brains behind the operation and about six steps ahead of everyone else.
