Plot Synopsis
Executive produced and hosted by Adriana Lima, AMERICAN BEAUTY STAR is a one-hour competition reality series during which 12 hair or make up mavens must become 'beauty directors,' responsible for creating the overall look of their models. Paired with a teammate who is a master of the opposite craft, together they compete in a series of beauty challenges each week, from creating high-end editorial looks to the most current glam creations for red carpets and runway shows. At the end of the season, only the contestant who proves they have what it takes to revolutionize what's to come in beauty will be named American Beauty Star. Celebrity makeup artist Sir John serves as the contestant mentor and award-winning writer and Vogue's former Beauty Director Sarah Brown and world renowned photographer Russell James serve as the judges. Special beauty industry influencers and celebrity guests join the panel of judges each week including YouTube beauty sensation Michelle Phan; models Behati Prinsloo, Christie Brinkley and Camilla Alves; make-up bloggers and beauty influencers The Kattan Sisters Huda and Mona; singer Michelle Williams, Editor-in-Chief of Teen Vogue Elaine Welteroth and Empire actress Ta'Rhonda Jones.
Season 2 of AMERICAN BEAUTY STAR premiered on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT on Lifetime. International supermodel Ashley Graham joins as the new host with celebrity makeup artist Sir John returning as mentor and a new panel of judges that include the world's original supermodel Christie Brinkley, Cosmopolitan's Chief Beauty Director Leah Wyar, and world acclaimed celebrity fashion and beauty photographer Yu Tsai for 13 all-new episodes. The second season features 14 hair and makeup artists who compete in a series of challenges, from creating high-end editorial looks to the latest red carpet and runway-ready beauty trends. The stakes are even higher this season as the contestants are responsible for executing every aspect of their look from hair to makeup and everything in between. Each judge uses their unique expertise and decide who stays in and who packs up their brushes in each episode, leading to a live season finale event where viewers from across the country vote for their favorite artist and help determine who will be the next American Beauty Star.
The winner receives over $100,000 in cash and prizes including a $50,000 contract as a Consulting Beauty Artist with Revlon, an editorial feature in Cosmopolitan magazine, an all-expenses paid trip to New York City to see the hit Broadway musical, "Waitress," $10,000 worth of JTV jewelry and an opportunity to design their own signature collection of Zenni Eyewear. Revlon also provides winners of each of the Revlon challenges with Revlon products valued at $5,000. These include Revlon cosmetics and Revlon Professional hair styling products which are featured in the show along with new collections launching in 2019. Winners of Hearst Magazine's Cosmo Challenge and Tie-in Challenge receive a feature on Cosmopolitan.com showcasing their winning looks. The Season 2 contestants are: Asi Wilson-Perry (Atlanta, GA), Axel Vasquez (Centreville, VA), Brittney Ward (Queens, NY), Diana Osorio (East Rutherford, NJ), Jayson Glenn (Montgomery, AL), Kendra Springer (Seattle, WA), Leslie Martin (Gilbert, AZ), Lucy Garland (Melbourne, Australia), Ricardo Ferrise (West Hollywood, CA), Ronaldo Escobar (New York, NY), Sara Stoy (Hamilton, NJ), Steven Smith (Savannah, GA), Tina Mod (Phoenix, AZ), and Tyren Redd (Los Angeles, CA).
