Plot Synopsis

Psychiatrist Ben Harmon moves from Boston to Los Angeles, with his wife Vivien and teenage daughter Violet, as a means to reconcile past anguish. Vivien and Ben are still working through trust issues after she caught him cheating with one of his students, and Vivien recently suffered through a brutal miscarriage. In their new 1920s L.A. home, which was the site of previous murders, they meet their nosy next-door neighbor Constance, whose daughter Adelaide has Downs Syndrome and the ability to predict death. Their new house even comes with a maid, who was also the housekeeper for the previous owners, except she takes two forms -- Vivien sees a trustworthy older woman while Ben oogles a sexy and flirtatious young maid. Ben also uses his home as his office, where he treats patients, including Tate Lang, a psychotic young teenage boy who speaks in tongues, has a violent streak, and catches Violet's attention.
