Plot Synopsis

AMERICAN NIGHTMARE is a one-hour docuseries that chronicles true-crime cases for which real-life home movies and photos meet real crime scene video and stills, causing murder mysteries to become emotional powerhouses. Situations where the American Dream quickly turned into an American nightmare. On New Year's Day 2019 (Tuesday, January 1) at 9pm ET/PT, Investigation Discovery premiered the "Apartment 23" episode of AMERICAN NIGHTMARE, but the cable channel had no other episodes on its schedule at that time. This special episode featured a story about Northeastern University students were were alarmed at the discovery of a fellow co-ed shot to death in her apartment. As graduation neared, the detectives faced many challenges in the investigation, until they realized the answer was right in front of them.

On Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT, Investigation Discovery premiered the Season 1 finale of AMERICAN NIGHTMARE. In the season ender, "The Answering Machine," a charitable, up-and-coming actress is savagely murdered in her home, and police believe an angry, revenge-hungry killer is responsible. But no one could expect the lies, obsessions, and evidence that will be uncovered in this shocking cold case.
