Plot Synopsis

Loosely based on Awkwafina's real life growing up in Flushing, AWKWAFINA IS NORA FROM QUEENS is a half-hour scripted comedy series that follows a fictionalized version of Nora, as she leans on her family and navigates life and young adulthood in outer borough-NYC. The series opens with Nora taking her first steps toward financial independence in an attempt to move out of her dad's house. The series features a slate of predominantly female and diverse directors for the 10-episode series: Natasha Lyonne, Lucia Aniello, Jamie Babbit, The Daniels, Steven Tsuchida, and Anu Valia. At 10:30pm ET/PT on Monday, January 20, 2020 -- two days before the official series premiere -- MTV2 and Comedy Central debuted a half-hour sneak peek of AWKWAFINA IS NORA FROM QUEENS, which is executive produced by series star Awkwafina. The series had its official premiere on Wednesday, January 22 at 10:30pm ET/PT on Comedy Central, with a simulcast on MTV, MTV2, Pop, VH1, Logo, and Nick.

The 10-episode second season of AWKWAFINA IS NORA FROM QUEENS premiered on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 from 10-11pm ET/PT, as Comedy Central debuted back-to-back new episodes, with a simulcast on MTV2. In the season opener (10pm), "Never Too Old", after a starry-eyed look at her future, Nora trains a new CBD store employee, Grandma's newly diagnosed perfect bill of health leads to a face-off, and Daniel catches Nora by surprise. Then, in the second episode (10:30pm), "Stop! Nora Time," after getting an MRI during an earthquake, Nora time travels to the iPod-filled world of 2003 where she sets out to warn her younger self about the mistakes she's going to make. Season 2 guest stars include: Margaret Cho, Alan Kim, Lauren Ash, Alex Borstein, Ross Butler, Cindy Cheung, Catherine Cohen, Catherine Curtin, Nancy Eng, Fortune Feimster, Chloe Fineman, Judy Gold, Stephanie Hsu, Kerri Kenney-Silver, C.S. Lee, Fay Ann Lee, Ajay Mehta, Haley Joel Osment, Bea Soong, Aaron Takahashi and Jade Wu. Plus, Gabo Augustine, Michelle Buteau, Jennifer Esposito, Chrissie Fit, Jonathan 'Dumbfoundead' Park, Jaboukie Young White, Wai Ching Ho, and Liang Ying He reprise their roles from the first season. Directors for Season 2 include: Bill Benz, Andrew McCarthy, Laura Murphy, Jordan Kim, and Steven Tsuchida. Plus, cast member BD Wong makes his television directorial debut.

Season 3 of AWKWAFINA IS NORA FROM QUEENS premiered on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at 10:30pm ET/PT on Comedy Central. Nora is really, really, really trying to be an adult this time, and the results speak for themselves. Meanwhile, Edmund, Wally and Grandma are taking on new challenges and new identities. Season 3 guest stars include: Ken Jeong, Ronny Cheing, Michael Bolton, Ross Butler, Ronny Chieng, Lea DeLaria, Janeane Garofalo, Gina Gershon, Ken Jeong, Frankie Muniz, Jai Rodriguez, and Greta Titelman. Jennifer Esposito is returning as a recurring guest. In the season opener, "Nightmares," Nora tries out therapy after having recurring nightmares, Wally gets ready to propose to Brenda, Grandma mourns the loss of her friend, and Edmund enjoys his newfound fame.
On Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 10:30pm ET/PT, Comedy Central premiered "Nora Is Awkwafina from Queens," the Season 3 finale of AWKWAFINA IS NORA FROM QUEENS. Nora gains a new perspective on life after meeting Awkwafina; Wally and Brenda make amends; Edmund unexpectedly finds love.
