Plot Synopsis

BADLANDS, TEXAS is an eight-hour docudrama that chronicles a murder in Terlingua, Texas, a small town that sits right along the Mexican border. With the nearest modern amenities over 200 miles away, it's an eclectic, off-grid community that attracts mavericks, misfits and musicians seeking freedom from the confinement of big city life. For the most part the residents of Terlingua tend to police themselves, but when a beloved member of the town is murdered, the tight-knit community is shaken to its core. And when the main suspect is another member of the town, the ensuing trial has everyone on edge. The series opens when a resident is found dead outside his bar by one of his employees, as the show introduces the townspeople who considered the deceased a friend and a colleague and the sheriff who must put together the pieces to find out exactly what happened that February night. BADLANDS, TEXAS features these people: resident and entrepeneur Ronda Haberer, who plans to open an overnight rental campground consisting of vintage RVs; Herman Everett, owner of the El Dorado Hotel and High Sierra Bar and Grill; long-time resident 'Dr. Doug' Blackmon; resident tire technician and musician Mike Kasper; resident Alicia Smith; resident Ty Mitchell; resident Tim Knight; Justin Low, Midland County, TX Defense Attorney; Brewster County, TX, District Attorney Rod Ponton; Ronny Dodson, the Sheriff of Brewster County; Edward Cardoza, a Brewster County Sheriff's Department Captain; Dr. Rhome Hughes, a forensic pathologist; and many more.

On Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT, Nat Geo premiered the season finale of BADLANDS, TEXAS. In the season ender, "The Road Ahead," the town of Terlingua looks to the future, as no one believes the bar or the town will ever be the same.
