Plot Synopsis

When an expensive car containing a suicide note -- but no body -- is pulled from the sea, veteran Northern Ireland police detective Tom Brannick instantly sees the connection to an infamous cold case that holds enormous personal significance for him. It seems someone is trying to force the police to re-open their investigation into a notorious and long-buried series of mysterious disappearances over 20 years ago during a dark period in Northern Ireland history. BLOODLANDS follows Tom Brannick's obsessive campaign to identify and unmask the semi-mythical figure behind these events -- a figure code-named Goliath, after the giant shipyard cranes, Samson and Goliath, that dominate the Belfast skyline. It's a case that comes from Tom's -- and his country's -- dark past. BLOODLANDS had its U.S. premiere on Monday, March 15, 2021 on Acorn TV, as the streaming service released the first episode of the Season 1. A new episode debuted each Monday through April 5.

BLOODLANDS returned for its second season on Acorn TV on Monday, February 6, 2023, as the streaming service released the first two episodes. Two more episodes drop each Monday through February 20. In Season 2, DCI Tom Brannick returns as the murder of a crooked accountant unravels a trail of greed that threatens to expose the true identity of the legendary assassin codenamed Goliath. Between Tom and redemption stands the accountant's widow, Olivia, whose intentions may be far from innocent. They will scheme together, keeping each other in knife point's reach, as they try to solve the riddle the accountant left behind. As they become more immersed in the puzzle of each other, Tom and Olivia will draw in Tom's fellow officers DS Niamh McGovern, DCS Jackie Twomey, and DC "Birdy" Bird, as well as his daughter, Izzy, until deceit and betrayal build to a shattering climax.

On Monday, February 20, 2023, Acorn TV released the final two episodes of BLOODLANDS' second season:

Episode 5: Tom is forced to suppress his rage in order to cover up the crime that Olivia has committed. Tom struggles to recover the gold -- and the evidence that could incriminate him -- as a revelation from Izzy knocks him off course. Olivia overplays her hand to disastrous effect, and gangster Ryan Savage nears acquiring what he desires most.

Episode 6: The police investigation threatens to collide with Tom's illicit pursuit of Olivia, the murder weapon, and the gold. Tom must move the pieces into place so he can come out on top. Under immense pressure, he choreographs a final reckoning that will endanger those closest to him and force him to reveal the dark truth of who he really is.
