Plot Synopsis
Jack Maxwell travels around the world connecting with locals and immersing himself in regional activities, while learning about each country's unique relationship with liquor -- and sometimes even participating in the alcohol-making process. Whether it's Tongba, the warm millet brew that powers Sherpas up and down the Himalayas, or the moss schnapps that may -- or may not -- be made by Iceland's mythical Hiddenfolk, Maxwell is on an exploration of a lifetime. In each one-hour episode of BOOZE TRAVELER, Maxwell visits one of 15 different locations across 13 countries, including Turkey, Peru, Spain, Iceland, Austria, Mongolia, Lithuania, Belize, Nepal, Japan, South Africa, Armenia, and the United States. In the premiere episode, Maxwell heads to Turkey to understand the country's long, colorful and complicated relationship with alcohol. With approximately 99 percent of its population Muslim, Turkey is deeply divided on alcohol -- continuously swinging back and forth between tolerance and prohibition. The first stop on his journey is the working-class neighborhood of Besiktas in Istanbul, where revolution is always on the minds of the young, soccer-loving, hard-drinking citizens. He's invited to a rebel group's tailgating party and asked by its leader to share a glass of raki, Turkey's national drink. After game night, Maxwell delights his taste buds with boza, a one-percent, alcohol-infused custard beverage, and then helps his new friends sell the boza throughout the neighborhood. The next day, he has dinner and raki with an elite group of Turkish authors and revolutionaries - absorbing a lesson in history and customs along with the alcohol. On Monday, September 28, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT, Travel Channel premiered Season 2 of BOOZE TRAVELER. In the season opener, "Greece: The Morning After," Jack explores Greece as it leans on traditions to help find its way through an uncertain time. Along the way, he experiences ouzo, a marathon plate-smashing bachelor party, sheep, and an ancient hangover cure. In the rest of the 16-episode second season, Jack embarks on a journey crisscrossing the map to taste homemade liquors, fresh brewed beer and handcrafted cocktails in diverse locations including Argentina, Finland, Guatemala, Hawaii, Hungary, India, New Zealand, the Philippines, Sicily, Tanzania and Texas. Season 3 of BOOZE TRAVELER premiered on Monday, December 12, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT on Travel Channel. Maxwell begins the new season's journey south of the United States border in Guadalajara, Mexico, celebrating Foundation Day, one of the city's biggest party days of the year. After making music with a mariachi band and drinking raicilla, an agave-based spirit, he finds himself in Oaxaca for an exclusive taste of an award-winning mezcal. Maxwell offers the same spirit to Mexico's thirstiest folk saint in exchange for safe travel to Tepoztlan, where he participates in an ancient Aztec ceremony for a taste of pulque, a drink older than tequila. Later on, he works the blue agave fields for a shot of tequila. Maxwell makes his last stop in Mexico's capital city, where he drinks a one-of-a-kind cocktail and plays a shocking drinking game. Later in the season, Maxwell will Hobart Harbor in Australia for a taste of the world's best single malt whiskey, catch spiders in Cambodia to make tarantula wine, and drink apple pie moonshine at the Mamou Mardi Gras in Louisiana.

The 16-episode fourth season of BOOZE TRAVELER premiered on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT on Travel Channel. In Season 4, Maxwell heads to Scandinavia to explore the magical origins of the "mead of poetry" drink that, as Viking legend has it, turns those who drink it into a poet and scholar. And, he gets to share a pint with a Robin Hood impersonator in England's Sherwood Forest. Throughout the 16-episode season, Maxwell will also visit Arizona, the Caribbean, Chile, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Michigan, Taiwan, New England, New Mexico, the Pacific Northwest, the Rocky Mountains and more. The season opens with "Tahitian Dream," as Maxwell immerses himself in the culture of the island paradise and has an authentic tamure dream -- a drink aptly named for a traditional Tahitian dance, made with over 7,000 orange peels and freshly harvested sugar cane. Maxwell also shares a beer with pearl divers after gathering some of the world's rarest pearls, learns the secrets of harvesting vanilla and tastes both brut d'ananas -- a sweet and refreshing pineapple champagne, and pia uru -- a favorite local beer brewed from breadfruit.
