Plot Synopsis

THE BOYFRIEND is a one-hour reality series that features a group of nine young men who are attracted to other guys as they live together in a seaside beach house called the Green Room and run a peppermint-colored coffee truck. Whether they are here to meet a romantic partner, find a lifelong friend or improve themselves, these men bring their hopes and dreams to the Green Room to take part in the first gay romance reality show in Japan. Megumi, Chiaki Horan, Thelma Aoyama, Durian Lollobrigida, and Yoshimi Tokui are the in-studio commentators. The nine men are: Shun (23; artist); Taeheon (34; designer); Usak (36; go-go dancer); Ikuo (22; food service); Gensei (34; hair and makeup artist); Dai (22; student); Alan (29; IT); Kazuto (27; chef); and Ryota (28; model & barista). THE BOYFRIEND debuted on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 on Netflix, which released the first three episodes. Three new installments dropped on July 16, followed by two episodes on each of July 23 and July 30.

On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, Netflix released the final two episodes of THE BOYFRIEND:

"Accepting You No Matter What": Dai confides in a few members for advice. Ikuo's good intentions backfire. As things cool down, a surprise announcement leaves the boys in tears.

"I Don't Want This to End": A surprise event strengthens the boys' bonds. On the final day, they face confessions and shocks. What future will they choose for themselves?
