Plot Synopsis
BRIDE & PREJUDICE is a one-hour reality series that follows three couples who desperately want to get married, but whose prejudiced family members do not approve of their unions. Bringing each other's families together may be challenging, but for these couples approval is necessary before walking down the aisle. As they announce their engagements and meet the in-laws, emotions run high, revealing the difficulties each couple must deal with along the way. Against all odds and in the face of bigotry, these couples aim to prove that their relationship has what it takes to build the foundation for a long lasting marriage.
The Season 1 couples are:
- Lou & Chris: Chris and Lou met while working together as flight attendants. It started as a friendship but quickly grew stronger once they realized that their connection was unique and powerful. Lou's mother has always accepted and supported the couple; however Chris struggles with his parent's acceptance. His mom has finally come around to be excited for the engagement, but his father remains uncomfortable with Chris' sexuality.
- Adam & Briana: After an online dating misconnection, Briana and Adam accidentally met at a restaurant one year later. Sparks flew, and they were engaged six months later in the same location. Briana and Adam face adversity as an interracial couple and name calling not only from perfect strangers, but from their own family members. Because both sides of each family hold such prejudice views, the couple fears that their wedding could lead to a disastrous clash.
- Eugene & Samantha: When Eugene proposed to Samantha, they had been together just over a year. The couple is of different faiths -- Samantha was raised Christian and Eugene was raised Jewish. Unlike Samantha, Eugene always felt a strong connection to his religion, and they have decided to raise their three month old son, Nathan in a multi-faith household with an emphasis on Judaism. Eugene's mother and brother are strongly opposed to their relationship.
BRIDE & PREJUDICE moves to Lifetime for its second season, where it is now called BRIDE & PREJUDICE: FORBIDDEN LOVE. Unfolding over ten episodes, this four-week social experiment follows ordained minister, marriage coach and expert Pastor Cal Roberson as he helps three couples who are deeply in love, but whose friends and families do not approve of their relationships. They must overcome differences in religion, race and age as they determine if they want to get married or go their separate ways. Season 2 premiered on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 10pm ET/PT on Lifetime.
This season, Pastor Cal leads three couples from Atlanta, GA through an immersive experimental process with their loved ones to unearth the sources of their objections and perceived prejudice to help them find acceptance and support. Will these critical family members endorse the relationships and attend the weddings, or will they try to shatter their future happiness together? This season's couples include:
- Willi and Cameron, who must overcome differences of religion and belief systems. Willi is Jewish, Cameron is Christian, and Willi's family would like Cameron to convert before becoming engaged and married.
- Blair and Chris, who are a mixed-race couple. Blair's mother does not approve of Chris' mixed North Korean heritage, tattoos and bad boy image.
- Kiandria and Kareem, who are challenged by differences between their ages. Both families question what they see as a maturity and behavioral gap, and suitability to parent Kiandria's six-year-old son.
