Plot Synopsis
Narrated by Ed Harris, THE BUSH YEARS: FAMILY, DUTY, POWER is a six-part docuseries that examines the Bush family and their impact on American political history, while exploring the family's internal dynamics: the influential matriarchs, sibling ambitions and unceasing competitive spirit which drove them to power. Through archival footage and interviews with historians, journalists, political figures and Bush family members, the series reveals a story of triumph, tragedy, heroism, faith, and an evolving conservatism. THE BUSH YEARS premiered on Sunday, March 3, 2019 from 9-11pm ET/PT on CNN, with back-to-back new episodes:
"Part One: Fathers and Sons" (9pm): George H.W. Bush volunteers to go to war; he is reunited with Barbara and they give birth to their first child, future President George W. Bush; tragedy strikes when they lose their daughter Robin; Prescott Bush heads for the Senate.
"Part Two: The Price of Loyalty" (10pm): Blinded by loyalty to his president and ignoring the advice of his family, George H.W. Bush is betrayed by Richard Nixon; the children start to follow in their father's footsteps; young Jeb gets married to Columba; George W. falls in love with Laura.
