Plot Synopsis

CALLS FROM THE INSIDE is a one-hour docuseries that uses jailhouse phone calls to frame the narrative of murder investigations steeped in mystery. It's an iconic line in any crime story: when a suspect is arrested, they get one call. In reality, once a person enters the criminal justice system, they have multiple opportunities to make calls as they await trial. The vast majority of those calls are recorded. An admission, a threat, a slip of the tongue, a bribe it's all on tape and the suspect knows it. But this doesn't always stop them from talking and talking. Each one-hour episode focuses on a different case, including:

"Calling All Suspects" (Wednesday, December 29, 2021): Newlyweds Tony Cooper and Melinda Kotkins of Gresham, Oregon, are executed. Jail calls during Tony's previous incarceration yield many suspects, including men in love with Melinda. The killer seals his own fate thanks to a jail call to his wife.

"The Real Jail Wives" (Wednesday, January 5, 2022): Kim Boone and Anita Smithey have much in common. They're middle class moms in their 40s. And both attempted to kill their husbands. Jail calls between the two reveal their inner thoughts on love, men and the circumstances that landed them in prison.

"Witness Beware" (Wednesday, January 12, 2022): A distraught husband cannot locate his wife. Police discover a videotape, and the grainy footage points to a grisly demise. The killer's jailhouse phone calls threaten to widen the circle of fatalities in this quiet South Eastern, Florida, community.

"Murder Strikes Twice" (Wednesday, January 19, 2022): John Peek's first wife died in an apparent burglary. Now years later, his second wife is killed. Police must determine if it's just a terrible coincidence. Jail calls, hidden wire conversations, and years of detective work finally reveal the truth.

"Jealousy's Killer Web" (Wednesday, January 26, 2022): In 2017, Julii Johnson lay dead in front of her boyfriend's home in Warren, Michigan. All evidence seems to point to the boyfriend. As detectives dig deeper, they uncover a complicated plot, and no one is talking except on the jail phone.

"An Inconvenient Romance" (Wednesday, February 2, 2022): William Hargrove loves both Anna and Michelle. When Michelle tells him he has to choose between them, he picks her -- and Anna winds up dead. He claims to love Michelle so much, but his phone calls hint at her possible role in Anna's murder.
