Plot Synopsis
This spin-off of CHICAGO FIRE focuses on the staff and patients at Chicago Med. On April 7, 2015, NBC premiered the "I Am the Apocalypse" episode of CHICAGO FIRE, which introduced the characters on CHICAGO MED. In this planted spin-off episode, Firehouse 51 races to the scene of a deadly chemical leak inside an industrial building, where scores of workers are rescued but many are experiencing respiratory distress. This prompts truck 81, squad 3 and ambulance 61 to spring into action to transport the victims to nearby Chicago Med. The situation takes a turn from bad to worse in the midst of the chaos when a "patient" planted inside the hospital goes on a suicide mission armed with a grenade and claiming to be the carrier of a deadly airborne disease. Trying to stop the madman from engaging the explosive device, a member of the firehouse team is severely wounded in the blast and left to face life-threatening injuries. With no other choice, Chicago Med is forced into lockdown until doctors and the Hazmat team can determine the severity of the airborne virus. Bold and ever-capable trauma fellow Dr. Connor Rhodes is the newest doctor on staff at Chicago Med. Dr. Will Halstead, chief ER resident, is the brother of CPD's Det. Jay Halstead. Halstead practiced medicine in New York before returning to his Windy City roots and is the epitome of reliability, both in and out of the hospital. Dr. Daniel Charles, Med's Chief of Psychiatry, possesses remarkable insight into his patients and is off-the-charts intelligent in all subjects but his own personal life. Sharon Goodwin, the Chief Administrator of Clinical Operations of Chicago Med, expects the very best from her people as she balances the tremendous pressures of running the city's largest hospital, and always with a sense of humanity that allows her doctors to provide the very best care possible. Dr. Natalie Manning specializes in emergency pediatric medicine and is completely focused and dedicated to her patients, despite being in the third trimester of her pregnancy. Dr. Ethan Choi found his calling in medicine while serving as a Navy combat doctor. Currently on away rotation, he is a tireless yet impulsive doctor who is well versed in infectious diseases. Fourth-year medical student Dr. Sarah Reese is a super proficient overachiever who has never struggled at anything, but who may soon find that, for the first time, she's in over her head. April Sexton is a smart, bold and intuitive ER nurse who is the lifeblood of the emergency room. She loves the action inside the hospital and is as loyal as they come. Together, they confront Chicago's most critical medical cases and challenging ethical dilemmas with courage, compassion and state-of-the-art treatment. Originally scheduled to debut midseason 2015-16 -- and then scheduled to debut November 10 -- this series premiered on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT on NBC.
