Plot Synopsis
Based on M.R. Hall's Jenny Cooper novels, CORONER is a one-hour drama series that centers on Dr. Jenny Cooper, a recently widowed, newly appointed coroner, who investigates any suspicious, unnatural or sudden deaths in Toronto. Each death brings Jenny into a new arena in the city and sparks buzzworthy themes...while Jenny taps into her intuition, as much as her intellect and heart, as she solves cases along with the help of: Homicide Detective Donovan 'Mac' McAvoy, a man who isn't afraid of challenging status quo; pathologist Dr. Dwayne Allen, his assistant River Baitz; and Alison Trent, Jenny's assistant who keeps it real. And while Jenny solves mysterious deaths, she also deals with clinical anxiety, a teenage son, Ross, who is still grieving the death of his father, and the prospect of starting a new relationship with the enigmatic Liam. CORONER had its U.S. premiere on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at 9pm ET/PT on The CW.
On Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 9pm ET/PT, The CW aired the Season 2 debut of CORONER. The second season returns to Toronto where Jenny Cooper continues her mission to speak for the dead to protect the living. In the aftermath of a devastating apartment fire, Jenny struggles to control a dangerous new outlet for her anxiety. Meanwhile, a witness to the fire draws Detective Donovan McAvoy into a hidden side of the city. The season dives deeper into what it means to live in the face of death. Jenny must trust her instincts, as her father's dementia worsens, her son turns 18, and her now-live-in boyfriend Liam is confronted by his own push and pull with death. Every body has a story -- and this season, Jenny must figure out the story her own body's telling.
The 10-episode third season of CORONER made its U.S. debut on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 8pm ET/PT on The CW. In Season 3, coroner Jenny Cooper must move past her trauma and embrace her whole self. In the process of healing, she and live-in boyfriend Liam are now separated and separately trying new forms of therapy. With Liam gone, Jenny finally has space to focus on herself...for all of five minutes. It isn't long before death knocks at her door with a slew of new cases -- both COVID-related and not -- that force her to unleash the real Jenny Cooper locked inside. Meanwhile, Detective Donovan McAvoy stares down the barrel of his own mortality in a very personal way, which propels him to investigate both his cases and his life with a new perspective. He may even find love. Ross confronts uncomfortable identity challenges, and Gordon's Lewy Body Dementia causes him to lose himself in the possibility of a life once lived.
Season 4 of CORONER made its U.S. debut on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at 9pm ET/PT on The CW. In the season opener, "Emerge," Jenny Cooper is on sabbatical, gardening and healing from her tragic loss in a small rural town, but her hopes of running from death are dashed when a young boy washes up on a beach. Meanwhile, a comic book illustrator leaves clues to her killer in a homicide investigation where Detective Donovan McAvoy must confront his personal and professional life post-surgery.
