Plot Synopsis

Blending audio from the negotiations with expert testimony, DEADLY DEMANDS takes a comprehensive look into the tensions and heightened emotions endured during life-or-death hostage situations, unraveling the critical moments and complex relationships that led to these terrifying moments. The series examines the volatile factors and delicate history between the hostage and their taker, gaining insight into the taker's motivations. Viewers learn about the situation as it unfolds alongside negotiators, hearing every shocking moment through audio from the negotiation tapes. Audiences also gain insight into the jobs of these men and women who do everything they can to talk the hostage taker off the ledge -- and to save innocent lives. Each one-hour episode chronicles a different standoff, featuring the stories of these people: Richard Shenkman, who takes his ex-wife Nancy at gunpoint back to their once beloved home just before their final court date; Richard Farley, who was fired for his extreme behavior toward his coworker Laura Black, but returned to the office with guns in hand; Paula Gutierrez and Chino DeJesus, who decided to solve their financial problems by robbing a bank; Larry Hill, who is released from prison and shows up at the home of single mother and prison penpal Lois Platt, taking her and her children hostage; Mehrdad Dashti, who pulls a gun from his briefcase and opens fire onto the crowd in Berkeley, CA; and Tony Zappa, who abducts and beats honors student Anne Sluti at a shopping mall.

On Monday, April 18, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT, Investigation Discovery premiered the season finale of DEADLY DEMANDS. In the season ender, "Trail of Terror," Anne Sluti is beaten and abducted by 200-lb fugitive Tony Zappa at a shopping mall. For detectives, all hope seems lost until an unexpected call comes in...from Anne. This honors student is not about to let Tony win.
