Plot Synopsis

DEEP STATE is a one-hour scripted series that centers around Max Easton, an ex-spy whose past comes back to haunt him when he's summoned away from his new life in the Pyrenees by George White, head of covert MI6/CIA team "The Section." White convinces Max to return to the field to avenge the death of his estranged son Harry. But the stakes are soon raised when Max finds himself at the heart of a covert intelligence war, immersed in a widespread conspiracy to profit from the spread of chaos in the Middle East. Max enters into a dangerous game as powerful corporations demonstrate that they are willing to go to great lengths to protect their reputation and bury their secrets. With such a strong undercurrent of corruption, who can Max trust? Who is telling the truth? And what must be done to uncover it? To find out, Max is going to have to throw himself back into the dangerous and brutal life he so desperately tried to leave behind. DEEP STATE had its U.S. premiere on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at 9pm ET/PT on EPIX.

Season 2 of DEEP STATE premiered on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT on EPIX. The second season delves deeper into the murky and political world of the deep state. Having failed in the Middle East, those powers are now turning their attention to sub-Saharan Africa and the scramble to plunder its natural resources. This is the first dirty war over clean energy. The series will also explore the origin stories of some of our favourite characters from season one alongside witnessing the fall of a hero and orchestrating the making of a terrorist in the eyes of the West. Joining the cast this season is Walton Goggins, starring as Nathan Miller, an ex-CIA operative brought in as a fixer for the deep state. In the season opener, "Cicero," four U.S. Special Forces and a translator are supposedly killed in an ambush in Mali. This delays a procurement deal in Washington, and it is up to operative Miller to make sure everything goes according to plan.

On Sunday, June 23, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT, EPIX premiered the Season 2 finale of DEEP STATE. In the season ender, "A Dead Man's Machine," all the pieces of the puzzle finally come into place, and the connection between the arms trail and the deep state is laid bare.
