Plot Synopsis

In December 2013, police in the Myrtle Beach area discover an abandoned car at a pitch-dark boat landing. They quickly surmise its owner -- 20-year-old Heather Elvis-- has vanished. Authorities race to find Heather and stumble into a twisted web of lies, betrayal and fury. DISAPPEARED IN THE DARKNESS: AN ID MYSTERY first debuted as a two-hour special on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 from 9-11pm ET/PT on Investigation Discovery. The cable channel then aired an encore presentation of the program on Friday, September 11, 2020 from 9-11pm ET/PT as a two-part special:

"The Landing": When police near Myrtle Beach discover an abandoned car at a boat landing, they discover that its owner, 20-year-old Heather Elvis, has vanished. They soon find that she's been enmeshed in a love triangle with a married man and led down a path of deceit.

"Meet the Missus": Myrtle Beach is on edge as the trials of Sidney and Tammy Moorer begin in the disappearance of 20-year-old Heather Elvis. After a hung jury results in a mistrial, her family fears they may never find justice for their beloved daughter.
