Plot Synopsis

Set in 1960s Oxford, this prequel to INSPECTOR MORSE follows Endeavour Morse when he was a rookie Detective Constable, well before his signature red Jaguar but with his deductive powers already on display. Morse is joined by Detective Inspector Fred Thursday, his senior partner and mentor, as they investigate cases like burgled gas meters, a string of Post Office robberies, and the hit-and-run death of an eminent Oxford professor. By the end of the four-episode first season, Morse is studying for the Sergeant's Exam and finds himself in a situation where he must choose between the responsibilities of his job and loyalty to his mentor. ITV1 aired the series pilot on January 2, 2012, more than 15 months before the official series premiere on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at 8pm. Almost three months later, PBS then aired the U.S. premiere of the series on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT as part of MASTERPIECE MYSTERY!.

PBS aired the U.S. premiere of the second season of ENDEAVOUR on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT (check local listings). Season 2 opened four months after Morse's brush with death, when he returns to duty with Oxford City Police and is reunited with DI Thursday. Morse's first case involves a John Doe who plummets to his death in what appears to be a routine suicide. When Morse discovers the man's mysterious final message, he begins to consider seemingly unrelated cases, causing Thursday to worry that Morse's wounds may have been more in mind than body.

Season 3 of ENDEAVOUR premiered in the United States on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at 9pm on PBS (check local listings). In the third season, Shaun Evans returns as the young Endeavour Morse. In four new films, Endeavour must deal with the aftermath of the events that left him in prison and his senior officer, DI Thursday, with a life-threatening injury. In the season opener, a country fair turns sinister when young bus conductress Jeannie Hearne is found brutally murdered in the Oxfordshire countryside. DC Endeavour Morse isn't part of the team called in to investigate her murder; instead, he's brooding over his suspension from duty, pending an inquiry. But when Jeannie's body turns up near his doorstep, he begins his own covert investigation, uncovering a disturbing secret that is hidden in plain sight.

PBS aired the U.S. premiere of the fourth season of ENDEAVOUR on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at 9pm (check local listings). In the season opener, "Game," Endeavour finds himself consumed by a nightmarish case hunting a serial killer; he must race against time to find the connection between a chess-playing 'thinking' machine and a baffling drowning.

On Sunday, June 16, 2019 at 9pm (check local listings), PBS aired the U.S. premiere of ENDEAVOUR's sixth season. Following the dissolution of the Oxford City Police and the merging with Thames Valley Constabulary at the end of the last season, Season 6 picks up with the team dispersed as they find their feet in their various new roles. However, despite their separation, the tragic murder of DC George Fancy still hangs over them both collectively and individually, with the case remaining unresolved.

Season 7 of ENDEAVOUR had its U.S. premiere on Sunday, August 9, 2020 at 9pm on PBS (check local listings). As Morse sees in the new year -- 1970 -- at an opera house in Venice, a murder in Oxford puts Thursday on a quest to find the man responsible. Returning home, Morse makes a new acquaintance, and old friendships show signs of strain.

The three-episode eighth season of ENDEAVOUR made its U.S. debut on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at 9pm on PBS (check local listings). In 1971, the heroes investigate suspected IRA retaliations, the murder of a local cab driver, and the peculiar killing of a college fellow which results in putting one of their own in imminent danger. As Endeavour shows signs of a struggle with his inner demons, the team wonders if he is beyond the point of no return. In the season opener, "Striker," an explosive murder at an Oxford college has potentially far-reaching political ramifications. Meanwhile, Endeavour is tasked with guarding the life of a beloved football team's star striker. All three episodes were available the night of the premiere with KPBS Passport. The two subsequent episodes debut on PBS on Sundays, June 26 and July 3.

The ninth and final season of ENDEAVOUR made its U.S. debut on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at 9pm on PBS (check local listings). Shaun Evans as the young Morse and Roger Allam as his superior officer face intriguing new crimes including an unsolved case linked to the past. With characters from former seasons popping up in a grand finale, Morse must resolve his professional and romantic future. In the season opener, "Prelude," an orchestra soiree, a much-anticipated performance and an abandoned warehouse are scenes for a trio of deaths. Morse's investigation turns up an unsettling connection to the past. Thursday gets a tempting offer, as does Joan.
