Plot Synopsis

In a new version of the classic series, FANTASY ISLAND takes place at a luxury resort, where literally any fantasy requested by guests is fulfilled, although they rarely turn out as expected. Delving into the "what if" questions -- both big and small -- that keep people awake at night, each episode tells stories about people who arrive with dreams and desires and depart enlightened and transformed through the magical realism of Fantasy Island. Serving as steward of this mysterious island is Elena Roarke, a descendant of the iconic Mr. Roarke. Elena set aside her own ambitions, and even the love of her life, to uphold her family's legacy. Sophisticated, insightful and always charming, her calm exterior masks the challenges of the responsibilities she has assumed. Assisting Elena is Ruby Okoro, a young woman with an old soul who arrives on Fantasy Island with a terminal illness and is given a new lease on life there; and pilot Javier, who also is the head of island transportation and a jack of all trades.

On Sunday, August 8, 2021 at 9:30pm ET/PT, FOX premiered "Welcome to the New Fantasy Island," a half-hour special that offers a behind-the-scenes look at the new FANTASY ISLAND. Shot entirely on Puerto Rico, the 30-minute special explores how the iconic series was re-imagined with new characters and visitors (and the celebrities playing them!), while offering viewers a front-row seat to the making of an exclusive scene from the pilot.

Then, two days later on Tuesday, August 10 at 9pm ET/PT, FOX aired "Hungry Christine; Mel Loves Ruby," the series premiere of the re-imagined series. In the series opener, Roarke welcomes a local morning show host, Christine Collins, who has a simple fantasy: she wants to eat. And eat. And eat. But when Christine gets to Fantasy Island, she'll realize that she's hungry for much more than food. Roarke's other guests include Ruby Akuda, who arrives on Fantasy Island with her husband; Ruby is afflicted with a terminal illness and is given a new lease on life. The second season of FANTASY ISLAND premiered on Monday, January 2, 2023 at 8pm ET/PT on FOX. Guest stars in Season 2 include: Teri Hatcher & James Denton in a DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES reunion, which also features Andy Richter; Rachael Harris & Cheryl Hines; Frankie J. Alvarez, Jai Rodriguez & Izzy Diaz (Broke); Marie Osmond, Kyla Pratt, Lynn Whitfield & Jason Priestley; and Alexa Mansour, who will recur beginning in Episode 2 as "Helene," a young woman who visits the Island in the wake of her mother's passing in search of her biological father. In the season opener, "Tara and Jessica's High School Reunion; Cat Lady," longtime best friends, Tara and Jessica, want to rule their 30th High School Reunion, but their plans go sideways when everyone is forced to tell the truth. Andi wants to know if her cat BoBo loves her as much as she loves him. Roarke juggles a secret romance, as Ruby and Gina spend more time together. On Monday, May 8, 2023 at 9pm ET/PT, FOX premiered "MJ Akuda & The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Wives Club," the Season 2 finale of FANTASY ISLAND. Sue, Jenna and Brooklyn are the first, second and third wives of Gavin, a charming doctor who's made a fortune selling all-natural vitamins -- and broken all of their hearts along the way. Now, they all share the same fantasy: they want Gavin to understand -- to feel for himself -- the pain he's caused them all. Meanwhile, Roarke brings Ruby's youngest daughter, MJ, to the Island to help Ruby remember who she is. And hopefully keep her from disappearing into the ocean forever with Isla... as a mermaid.
