Plot Synopsis

FINAL APPEAL is a one-hour docuseries that follows former football star and exoneree Brian Banks and former prosecutor Loni Coombs, as they work tirelessly to uncover the truth behind controversial cases that may have led to wrongful convictions. Brian is a former star football player who had NFL aspirations until he was wrongfully convicted of rape in 2002. He served more than five years behind bars before he was fully exonerated and is now a prominent activist against unjust convictions. Loni is a former criminal prosecutor and legal commentator with more than 20 years experience who strongly believes that no stone should be left unturned when pursuing justice. Together, the duo breaks down criminal cases to the core, meeting with the defense and prosecution to get both sides of the story. Additionally, Brian and Loni also consult with investigators and forensic experts to try and uncover fact from fiction. Each episode will take viewers on an emotional journey, filled with perplexing twists and turns to find out if the prisoner in question will get a second chance at life on the outside. In the two-hour season opener, Brian and Loni take an intimate look at the case of Patty Prewitt who has been behind bars for over 30 years for the murder of her husband. Have Brian and Loni come upon new evidence that may change Patty's life forever? In subsequent episodes, the duo investigate the cases of: Cleve Heidelberg, whose been behind bars for more than 45 years; Katie Garding, a young mother who has been behind bars after being convicted of vehicular manslaughter since 2008; Dontae Sharpe, who has maintained his innocence since 1994; and more people looking for a chance at redemption.

On Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 7-9pm ET/PT, Oxygen premiered the season finale of FINAL APPEAL. In the two-hour season ender, Brian and Loni head to North Carolina to reexamine the case against Dontae Sharpe, who has maintained his innocence since 1994. After a witness comes forward with new information, does Dontae have a chance at an exoneration?
