Plot Synopsis

FREAK OUT features unsuspecting marks whose worst fears come to life before their eyes through elaborate special effects, intricate makeup, twisted actors and multiple cameras capturing the scenario from every angle. Every prank is tailored with the help from the victim's friends and family to turn an everyday situation into someone's nightmare. Each half-hour episode features three pranks. The series opener, "Prison Break," includes these marks: a woman who thinks she fries a customer in a tanning booth when the knob accidentally comes off the machine; a man who decides to woo a woman by hiring a personal chef to cook a romantic dinner for two -- and then his wife shows up; and a man who is hired to help clean a house to get ready to put on the market but finds the place was the scene of a horrific crime -- and the criminals are headed back to the home. Five months before the series officially debuted, ABC Family premiered two 60-minute specials for Halloween, showing one program on each of Tuesday and Wednesday, October 21 & 22, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT. In the first Halloween special (Tuesday, October 21), a girl loses more than her mind when her hair starts falling out at a salon, a party guest gets the shock of her life as the pool party goes horribly wrong, a pregnant nail technician's baby tries to claw its way out of her stomach, and a dinner party gets stalked by a crazed killer. Then, Night #2 (Wednesday, October 22) features a girl dropping by to visit a sick patient who is possessed, a fired waiter comes back to exact supernatural revenge (with the help of Jonathan Sadowski), and a guy who gets the creeps over a woman with a swollen stomach full of live cockroaches.

On Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 10:30pm ET/PT, ABC Family premiered the Season 1 finale of FREAK OUT. In the season ender, "Yoga Freaks Me Out," Destany gets blamed when a groom gets cold feet at his wedding. Then, a woman asks passersby to help her get a baby out of the backseat of a car. When she takes off, the people are caught with a hanger in their hands with the police approaching and no baby in sight. Later, a girl goes to her first yoga class where she gets blamed for disrupting the class. When the instructor asks everyone to bang the ceremonial gong, the girl "hits it too hard" and causes a horrible chain reaction of falling objects. Finally, Ariel is terrorized at a camp when a human-animal hybrid attacks.
