Plot Synopsis

Hosted by Kliph Nesteroff, FUNNY HOW? is a five-part comedy documentary series that goes behind the mic, talking with rookie and veteran comics to investigate the big themes of their craft. In each episode, Nesteroff, a former standup himself with an encyclopedic knowledge of comedy, tackles areas running the gamut from bombing to breaking in, comedy classes, and niche comedy from the LGBTQ community to Christian comics -- all from a backstage perspective with some of the best comedians in the business including James Adomian, Dave Attell, Matt Besser, Mike Birbiglia, Rhea Butcher, Cameron Esposito, Dana Gould, Pete Holmes and Doug Stanhope and countless up-and-comers. In the series opener, "For the Love of God," Christian comedy is big business, but exists outside of the mainstream. Nesteroff visits with some of the comics on the road who are trying to bring laughs in His name. Viceland premieres the entire series the week of Monday, July 10, 2017, showing one episode at 11pm ET/PT each weeknight
On Friday, July 14, 2017 at 11pm ET/PT, Viceland premiered the season finale of FUNNY HOW?. In the season ender, "Nature vs. Nurture," Nesteroff explores whether comedy can be taught in a classroom, with the help of iconoclastic comic Doug Stanhope; visiting with those trying to teach the craft of comedy.
