Plot Synopsis
Based on Nick Hornby's 2014 novel of the same name, FUNNY WOMAN is a one-hour dramedy series that follows Barbara Parker, a small-town beauty queen, who decides to swap her pageant life for comedy television in 1960s London, taking the stage name of Sophie Straw. After landing a TV show audition, Barbara finds that being a woman in a largely male environment has its own challenges. As she "finds her funny" voice, Barbara re-defines the prevailing attitude toward funny women while on a mission to reinvent herself. FUNNY WOMAN made its U.S. debut on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at 10pm on PBS (check local listings).
