Season 1
Plot Synopsis
Directed by Daniel Amigone, GAME 7 is a five-part docuseries that explores the most epic Game 7s throughout sports history. With first-hand accounts from the athletes that participated in these high-stakes showdowns, each episode goes behind the scenes to unpack what it takes to compete on sports biggest stage. From the Chicago Cubs' drought-shattering 2016 World Series victory to the New York Rangers' Game 7 win in the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals, the series reveals how this quintessential test of maximum pressure and extreme intensity weigh on the hearts and minds of the legendary stars at the center of them. All five episodes of GAME 7 dropped on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 on Prime Video:
"Deep into the Night" about the 2003 American League Championship Series (New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox): The moment the Yankees beat the Red Sox in the 2003 ALCS, the greatest rivalry in sports reaches its zenith, with the Bombers dynasty looking as indominable and inevitable as ever, and a rising Red Sox club turned aside. And in the middle of it all is Aaron Boone -- a midseason addition to the Yanks from a baseball family -- a truly unlikely hero.
"The Price of Winning" about the 1987 Stanley Cup Finals (Edmonton Oilers vs. Philadelphia Flyers): The 1987 Edmonton Oilers entered the Stanley Cup Finals as the greatest hockey team ever, boasting 7 future Hall of Famers and two Stanley Cups under their belt. The Philadelphia Flyers, on the other hand, entered the series with a rookie goalie as their only hope, playing like they had nothing to lose. What resulted from this matchup was one of the most iconic Game 7s in hockey history.
"The Euro Step" about the 2006 Western Conference Semifinals (Dallas Mavericks vs. San Antonio Spurs): A generation of Europeans came to the NBA with skill and promise at the turn of the century, only to be thwarted by bigger, stronger competition stateside -- that is, until Dirk Nowitzki took on the mighty Spurs in the 2006 playoffs.
"Next Year" about the 2016 World Series (Chicago Cubs vs. Cleveland Indians): It had been 108 years since the Chicago Cubs had last won the World Series. And now, after trailing 3-1 in the series, the Cubs were one game away from ending the drought. But against the Cleveland Indians -- a franchise with their own long title drought -- it would take everything the Cubs had and more to win Game 7 of the 2016 World Series.
"The Messiah Promised" about the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals (New York Rangers vs. Vancouver Canucks): After winning five Stanley Cups with the greatest dynasty in the history of modern hockey, Mark Messier risked his legacy to accomplish the impossible: winning in New York City.
