Plot Synopsis

Executive produced by America Ferrera and created by two Chicano first-gen writers -- Marvin Lemus and Linda Yvette Chavez -- GENTEFIED is a half-hour dramatic comedy series adapted from the 2017 Sundance digital series of the same name. In this bilingual series about family, community, brown love, and the displacement that disrupts it all, three Mexican-American cousins -- Ana, Chris and Erik -- struggle to chase the American Dream, even while that same dream threatens the things they hold most dear: their neighborhood, their immigrant grandfather, and the family taco shop. Set in a rapidly changing Los Angeles, the Spanglish dramedy series navigates important themes like identity, class, and balancing insta-fame with translating memes for their parents. The series opens with aspiring chef Chris, artist Ana, and father-to-be Erik facing tough decisions, as their abuelo struggles to make rent on his Boyle Heights taco shop. Erik wrestles with his pride as he tries to round up $4K in bail money before the baby's ultrasound. Ana hits up her Instagram followers for work. Chris urges Pop to spice up the menu with a taco of the week and goes all out to prove he's a true Mexican. Erik takes Lidia out for a fancy dinner. Netflix released the entire 10-episode first season of GENTEFIED on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT.

The entire eight-episode second season of GENTEFIED dropped on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 on Netflix. As the Morales family rallies to fight Pop's deportation, cousins Ana, Chris and Erik face new challenges in their romantic and professional lives. In the season opener, "Welcome Home, Pop," after three months in an ICE detention center, Casimiro emerges to discover he's a local celebrity. But life at Mama Fina's is not as he left it.
