Plot Synopsis

David Rees, author of "How to Sharpen Pencils: A Practical & Theoretical Treatise on the Artisanal Craft of Pencil Sharpening...," teaches viewers how to master skills that most people already know how to do -- but often poorly. David dons his black apron to deconstruct a familiar process, navigating the whys, hows and what-ifs of everyday experiences. Along the way, he meets experts who reveal each task's surprising history and de-familiarize it until viewers realize they actually know nothing about it. David then gathers everything he's learned to devise and debut the best technique to accomplish this formerly simple task. In each half-hour episode, David explores a different skill, including: How to Make an Ice Cube; How to Tie Your Shoes; How to Dig a Hole; How to Flip a Coin; How to Swat a Fly; How to Open a Door; How to Climb a Tree; How to Throw a Paper Airplane; How to Shake Hands; How to Light a Match; and many more tasks that most people take for granted but can now master. Season 2 of GOING DEEP WITH DAVID REES premiered on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT on a new network: Esquire. In the new season, David continues to reveal the not-so-obvious complexities of life's seemingly simple tasks -- from how to properly pet a dog to how to take a nap. Plus, with guest appearances from Amy Sedaris, Paul F. Tompkins, Bernard Hopkins, Aimee Mann, John Hodgman and foremost experts in science and technology, David reveals why day-to-day life requires a lot more brainwork than most people think.

On Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT, Esquire Network premiered the season finale of GOING DEEP WITH DAVID REES. In the season ender, "How to Do the Dishes," an exploration into the most effective and efficient methods for washing dishes sends David on a sponge diving expedition off the coast of Florida as well as to NASA's Office of Planetary Protection.
