THE GREATEST EVENT IN TELEVISION HISTORY is a series of adult swim specials that stars Adam Scott spoofing '80s TV shows. The first special went behind the scenes, as Jon Hamm and Scott recreated the opening credits from SIMON & SIMON, with Paul Rudd portraying the director, Paul Scheer playing a protestor named Simon A. Simon, and Megan Mullally as Cecilia Simon. The second special, a 30-minute program that aired at midnight on Thursday, June 6, 2013, featured Amy Poehler and Scott playing millionaire sleuths Jennifer and Jonathan Hart from HART TO HART. On Thursday, November 7, 2013 at midnight ET/PT, adult swim premiered the third installment of THE GREATEST EVENT IN TELEVISION HISTORY, starring Adam Scott, Catherine O'Hara, Jon Glaser, Chelsea Peretti, and Kathryn Hahn attempting to recreate the opening credits of TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT. They're joined by Jeff Probst, Jon Hamm, Paul Scheer, and more.

After three failed attempts, Adam Scott finally thinks he nailed THE GREATEST EVENT IN TELEVISION HISTORY, as the fourth installment premiered on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at midnight ET/PT on adult swim. In this final attempt, Adam Scott and Paul Rudd re-enacted the opening credits of BOSOM BUDDIES, with help from Gillian Jacobs and Aidy Bryant.
