Plot Synopsis

Dating back to 1989, the Guaranteed Rate Bowl has gone through a number of name changes over the years. Originally known as the Copper Bowl, the name selected by bowl organizers from a "name the bowl" mail-in contest that garnered 1,300 entries. The committee selected Copper Bowl after also considering Frontier Bowl, Wild West Bowl, Turquoise Bowl, Arizona Bowl, Desert Bowl, Road Runner Bowl, and Cactus Bowl. Since then, the event has had multiple name changes, including the Insight Bowl, Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl, Cactus Bowl, and Cheez-It Bowl. In October 2020, the Fiesta Bowl Organization selected Guaranteed Rate to become the new title sponsor, and the Guaranteed Rate Bowl features the only postseason matchup between members of the Big Ten and Big 12 Conferences.
