Plot Synopsis
Using local news footage, HOMETOWN HOMICIDE is a one-hour docuseries that recounts the stories of murder investigations that turned small towns and communities upside down. On New Year's Day 2019 (Tuesday, January 1) at 11pm ET/PT, Investigation Discovery premiered the "All News Is Local" episode of HOMETOWN HOMICIDE, but the cable channel had no other episodes on its schedule at that time. In this special episode, 17-year-old Jessica Carpenter was found dead in her Aiken, SC home by her own mother in August 2000. Local reporters and family members tell the story of a town frozen in terror as police search for a possible serial killer on the loose. Two months later, HOMETOWN HOMICIDE had its official series premiere on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT on Investigation Discovery. In this episode, "Local Girl Gone," North Carolina high school freshman Danielle Locklear slips into the night to see a friend but never returns home in March 2014. As hours turn to days, her family and the residents of Hope Mills wonder, if a killer could be in their midst?
HOMETOWN HOMICIDE returned for its second season on Thursday, January 16, 2020
at 10pm ET/PT on Investigation Discovery. In the season opener, "Hold the Line," millionaire Tennessee landowner Allen Roberts arrives home to discover his wife is missing in August 1992. He tells police he received a ransom call for Doe's safe return. Slowly, the town turns on Allen -- until police take note of one odd neighbor.

On Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 10pm ET/PT, Investigation Discovery premiered "Unsafe Anywhere," the Season 2 finale of HOMETOWN HOMICIDE. Twenty-one-year-old Joel Larson is shot to death in a safe haven community for gay people in 1990s Minneapolis. Two more shootings terrorize the community as they realize a serial killer in disguise lives among them.
