Plot Synopsis

Created by Katleho, Tshepo and Rethabile Ramaphakela, HOW TO RUIN CHRISTMAS: THE WEDDING, the first season of the series, is a three-part romantic dramedy that follows Tumi Sello, a rebel and family disappointment, who begrudgingly joins her dysfunctional family for the first Christmas holiday in years. But it's not the merry return of the prodigal daughter everyone was hoping for. She manages to ruin the Christmas wedding ofher younger sister, Beauty -- before it even takes place, and spends her next few days frantically trying to get things back on track; trying to avoid being the grinch who ruined Christmas for everyone else -- from the inappropriate 'drunkle', Malome Shadrack, to judgemental aunties, resentful siblings and closely guarded family secrets. On Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Netflix released all three episodes of HOW TO RUIN CHRISTMAS: THE WEDDING.

HOW TO RUIN CHRISTMAS returned for its second season, HOW TO RUIN CHRISTMAS: THE FUNERAL, on Friday, December 10, 2021, as Netflix released all four episodes of the new season. A year after last year's Christmas disaster, Tumi finds herself in the center of another holiday family mess when a relative suddenly passes away. Against her better judgment, she agrees to take Gogo Twala out for some fun. And once again, Tumi seems to have ruined the holiday.

Season 3 of the series, titled HOW TO RUIN CHRISTMAS: THE BABY SHOWER, premiered on Friday, December 9, 2022 on Netflix, as the streaming service released all three episodes of the new season. After two chaotic Christmases, will the Sello and Twala families be able to put their differences aside to welcome Beauty and Sbu's first baby? The new season opens with Beauty and Sbu expecting their first child, and tensions are running high as the Sello and Twala families are forced to reunite for the shower. After the baby shower ends in flames, the Sellos wind up at the Twala lodge for Christmas. Secrets swirl as everyone tries to hide their wrongdoings. As various truths finally come to light, the Sellos and Twalas must put the past behind them and come together to help Beauty in her time of need.
