Plot Synopsis

ICE AIRPORT ALASKA is a one-hour docuseries that centers on Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage, Alaska, which is the only hub airport on the planet to operate in temperatures as low as -38 Fahrenheit and contend with winds of over 100mph. Despite frigid temperatures, increasingly unpredictable weather patterns, and the chaos of everyday air travel, it is also the only airport in the US that never shuts down. Ted Stevens is the world's fourth busiest cargo airport, transporting everything from the everyday to the exceptional, from tourists to the likes of racecars and even sharks. This series will take viewers behind the scenes with the ground crew as they fight the elements to keep the runways clear, with passengers on their daily commute to Alaska's wild places and with air traffic control as they keep commercial, freight and private planes moving through safely and on schedule. Season 4 of ICE AIRPORT ALASKA made its U.S. debut on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at 8pm ET/PT on Smithsonian Channel. In the season opener, "Arctic Guardians," a suspected toxic leak grounds a 737 at Anchorage International, engine trouble endangers the mid-air refuelling of the USAF's most advanced fighter jets in Alaska, and a discovery at airport customs busts a potential smuggling.
