Plot Synopsis
INMATE TO ROOMMATE is a one-hour docuseries that follows recently released inmates as they re-enter society and move in with everyday people who are welcoming them into their homes. This practice has been the subject of re-entry programs aimed at stopping recidivism. America has one of the world's highest recidivism rates with approximately 76% of released prisoners being re-arrested after 5 years. One of the most significant factors in reducing recidivism rates is access to housing. Both the former inmates and their respective roommates will enter this this new living arrangement with their own baggage. The opportunities and the challenges are complex as they each face scrutiny from friends and family questioning their motives. Will this new situation allow the formerly incarcerated to successfully re-enter society or will it be the worst decision both parties have ever made? In the series opener, "Time to Set You Free," eight ordinary Americans have made an extreme choice: opening their home to a roommate just released from prison. These individuals have a singular goal -- help the former inmate re-enter society and stay out of prison. As they prepare for their new roommate's release, these homeowners are questioned by friends, family, and those around them about their decision to bring a former convict into their lives.

Each homeowner has their own motivations for taking in an ex-convict. In season two, the former inmates will face major challenges to their sobriety, stricter house rules, parole constraints, and shocking accusations from their new roommates. Boundaries will be tested and secrets will be revealed. Can these former inmates integrate back into society, or will this non-traditional housing situation make them feel imprisoned all over again?
