Plot Synopsis

Host James May is out to prove why traditional, old fashioned toys are still relevant today when he pushes them to the limit in spectacular, supersize challenges. In Season 1 James tries to make a full-size Spitfire out of Airfix, a garden entirely out of Plasticine for the Chelsea Garden Show, a full-size bridge with Meccano, a three-mile-long Scalextric track at Brooklands in Surrey, a full-size house out of LEGO, and the longest ever model railway track. BBC America aired the U.S. premiere of this series on Monday, June 28, 2010 at 10pm ET/PT.

On Monday, December 21, 2015, TOY STORIES returned for its fourth season on BBC America, as the cable channel aired the U.S. premiere of back-to-back episodes. In the night's first episode (9pm), "The Motorcycle Diary," James attempts to build a motorbike and sidecar entirely out of Meccano to take round the Isle of Man's famous TT circuit. But designing a machine capable of carrying James and his passenger, wine expert Oz Clarke, around the daunting 37-mile course is not a task for the faint-hearted. Fifteen thousand pieces of Meccano must be assembled to create a full-size, road-legal motorcycle. Then, in the night's second episode (10pm), "Action Man at the Speed of Sound," James attempts to rehabilitate one of Britain's most derided toys by seeing if it's possible for Action Man to do what no toy has ever managed -- travel faster than the speed of sound. James battles high-speed physics, unforeseen explosions and catastrophic design setbacks that account for a large number of Action Man volunteers before settling on an experimental supersonic vehicle made entirely from scratch -- a vehicle that threatens to send Action Man and the team into oblivion.
