Plot Synopsis

THE LAKE ERIE MURDERS is a one-hour true-crime docuseries that chronicles dark and deadly crimes near Lake Erie, the ominously named body of water that borders four states and parts of Canada.

The series opens with a three-part special, "Who Killed Amy Mihaljevic?," on Sunday, December 30, 2018 from 9pm-Midnight ET/PT on Investigation Discovery, focusing on the 1989 kidnapping and murder of a 10-year-old girl. Still an unsolved murder with an active investigation, Amy Mihaljevic's story continues to haunt the region and remains a source of intrigue and speculation. The special takes viewers through the facts of the case and painstakingly follows how each lead was exhausted and how suspects were dismissed one by one. In a chilling revelation, the special also features multiple women with stories similar to Amy's when they were also young girls, who have chosen to remain anonymous due to the fear that the abductor is still out there. The hours expose a series of other child murders in the area to explore potential similarities to Amy's case, in the hopes that the details will help bring forward new leads and suspects.

One week after this three-hour special, THE LAKE ERIE MURDERS continued weekly with hour-long episodes that tell four additional haunting murder mysteries which were solved by law enforcement, reminding viewers that when it comes to Lake Erie, there really is something about the water.

The sophomore season of THE LAKE ERIE MURDERS premiered on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 10pm ET/PT on Investigation Discovery. In the season opener, "Devil at the Crossroads," 11-year-old Shauna Howe disappears as she returns home from a Girl Scouts Halloween party. When Shauna's body shows up in a local creek, her murder ignites an investigation whose conclusion will send shockwaves through her community.

On Sunday, April 19, 2020 at 8pm ET/PT, Investigation Discovery premiered "Cabin Fever," the season finale of THE LAKE ERIE MURDERS. After they fail to turn up for an annual maple tapping celebration, Ian and Nancy Blackburn's lifeless bodies are discovered stuff into the trunk of their own car. The whirlwind investigation will unmask a monster who hid in plain sight.
