Plot Synopsis

Based on the trilogy of TV movies, THE LIBRARIANS centers on an ancient organization hidden beneath the Metropolitan Public Library dedicated to protecting an unknowing world from the secret, magical reality hidden all around. This group solves impossible mysteries, fights supernatural threats and recovers powerful artifacts, including the Ark of the Covenant, the Spear of Destiny and Excalibur. For the past 10 years, Flynn Carsen has served as the Librarian. Prior to taking the job, he was a bookish nerd with 22 academic degrees and absolutely no social skills. As Librarian, however, he managed to use his extraordinary knowledge, successfully recovering ancient artifacts and, in the process, saving the world from unspeakable evil on more than one occasion. Over the last decade he's gone from bookworm to one of the secret heroes of the hidden world. But the job of Librarian has become more than one person can handle, so the Library has recruited his helpers from around the world, including these four people: Eve Baird, a highly skilled counter-terrorism agent formerly for NATO, who is the Library's Guardian, responsible for protecting the group and keeping them all alive; Jake Stone, an Oklahoma oil worker with an IQ of 190 and an encyclopedic knowledge of art history, who was recruited by Flynn and Baird after he was targeted for assassination by Dulaque and the Serpent Brotherhood; Cassandra, a quirky young woman with synesthesia, a special gift of auditory and sensory hallucinations linked to memory retrieval, for whom numbers appear as colors and science as musical notes; and Ezekiel Jones, a master of new technologies and an aficionado of old classic crimes, who is a world-class thief looking out for one person and one person alone. Overseeing the new team of Librarians is the somewhat cantankerous Jenkins, an expert in ancient lore who has been working out of the Library's sleepy little annex in Portland, Oregon, for longer than anyone knows. Together, they tangle with many adversaries, chief of whom is the Serpent Brotherhood, an ancient cult led by the mysterious immortal Dulaque. Noah Wyle is an executive producer of this 10-episode series, and appeared on a recurring basis, reprising his role of Flynn Carsen from THE LIBRARIAN movie trilogy, along with Bob Newhart and Jane Curtin.

The 10-episode second season of THE LIBRARIANS premiered on Sunday, November 1, 2015 from 8-10pm ET/PT with a two-hour season opener on TNT. Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth and John Kim all return as the newest protectors of the world's mystical treasures, with John Larroquette as their reluctant caretaker and Noah Wyle recurring as Flynn Carsen, the role he played in TNT's movie trilogy. Throughout the season, The Librarians' individual identities will be challenged as they confront their pasts and potential futures. Their previous methods -- where they could just jump from place to place, grabbing artifacts before they caused too much harm or putting ghosts and monsters to bed -- just aren't going to cut it anymore. Magic is popping in the world too fast and in too many ways to be completely hidden. Even the mission of the 2,000-year old Library has to change, creating a fundamental split between Eve Baird and Flynn Carsen that could completely derail the Librarians' mission to protect the world. In the season opener (8pm), "And the Drowned Book," while Jenkins discovers there's something wrong with the Library since it returned from the Void, the Librarians all find themselves drawn back together after having been off on their own for months, to solve the mystery of a massive storm that has parked itself over Manhattan. They soon discover the culprit in both cases is none other than Shakespeare's Prospero. Then, in the night's second new episode (9pm), "And the Broken Staff," Prospero summons up other Fictionals in order to retrieve the parts of his Staff from a museum. The Librarians soon find themselves pitted against Frankenstein's monster and Sherlock Holmes' brilliant nemesis Moriarty. Meanwhile Flynn and Baird have a disagreement over how to proceed against Prospero.

The 10-episode third season of THE LIBRARIANS premiered on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at 8pm ET/PT on TNT. This season, Noah Wyle directs two episodes -- "And the Reunion of Evil" (December 4) and one later in the season -- and he'll also write one. In the season opener, "And the Rise of Chaos," when the Egyptian God of Chaos inhabits a human body, he attempts to release Pure Evil into the world, thus beginning the final battle of Good vs. Evil. In order to stop him, the Librarians must decipher a series of clues within a science museum, including a mysterious warning spoken by exhibit mannequins that have come to life.

Season 4 of THE LIBRARIANS premiered on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 from 8-10pm ET/PT, as TNT debuted back-to-back new episodes. Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth and John Harlan Kim return as protectors of the world's mystical treasures, with John Larroquette as their reluctant caretaker. Noah Wyle recurs in seven of twelve episodes this season as Flynn Carsen, the role he played in the movie trilogy. This season, the heroes embark on new, action-packed adventures, risking their lives once again to save the world. They face off against Santa's brother the Patron Saint of Thieves, try to save a town plagued by ghosts from the Civil War, battle a casino that steals luck, endure a body switching fiasco and join forces with a time traveling Librarian from the past. But their greatest challenge will come from within the Library itself. With Charlene no longer tethered to the Library, which keeps it grounded to humanity, one Librarian and one Guardian must step up and take the mantle. As Jenkins organizes the Tethering Ceremony, the high ritual that will bond the pair to the Library forever, thus granting them immortality, Flynn and Baird seem poised to make this sacrifice. Until a woman from Flynn's past reveals herself to be one of the Library's dirty little secrets. Confronted with a dark mystery about the Library, every Librarian must ask themselves some tough questions: Is the Library itself good or evil? After millennia of one Librarian at a time, is it dangerous to have multiple Librarians working together? Can a Librarian ever live a "normal" life filled with love, friends and family? The Librarians have a lot of research to do, but this time, they'll need to find the answers inside themselves without any books or prophecies. In the season opener (8pm), "And the Dark Secret," when a secret sect of the Vatican Church unearths an ancient map detailing the locations of the four cornerstones of the Library of Alexandria (the original Library), it's up to Flynn and the Librarians - with the help of an unexpected ally - to stop them before the stones can be used to destroy the Library. Then, in the night's second new episode (9pm), "And the Steal of Fortune," when people begin getting hurt in the unluckiest of ways, the Librarians are led to a casino where the owner appears to possess an artifact capable of stealing people's luck. Despite falling under the bad luck curse themselves, the Librarians must turn the tables before the plague of bad fortune spreads to the wider world.
