Plot Synopsis

Based on Laura Esquivel's 1989 book of the same name and executive produced by Salma Hayek Pinault, LIKE WATER FOR CHOCOLATE is a six-part drama series that explores the idea that sometimes traditions can become a prison, an obstacle for love. Tita de la Garza and Pedro Muzquiz are two souls deeply in love, yet unable to be together due to entrenched family customs. The duo navigate a world of magical realism, as Tita struggles between the destiny imposed on her by her family and her fight for love. But she finds her greatest refuge: the kitchen. For Tita, her magical connection to cooking becomes an active resistance against oppression, allowing her to channel her deepest desires and passions into her recipes, transforming those who taste them. Set during the Mexican Revolution, the series also addresses the struggle of women to control their own destinies. LIKE WATER FOR CHOCOLATE premiered on Sunday, November 3, 2024 on Max, which released the first episode. The series made its linear television debut later the same day at 8pm ET/PT on HBO Latino. A new installment drops weekly each Sunday on Max (early morning) and HBO Latino (8pm) through December 8. Episodes include:

"Cream-Soaked French Toast" (Sunday, November 3, 2024): After years apart, childhood sweethearts Tita and Pedro are reunited -- but a deeply rooted family tradition rocks their plan to marry.

"Chabela Wedding Cake" (Sunday, November 10, 2024): While a heartbroken Tita endures her sister's wedding preparations, Pedro is caught between his father and his friend.

"Quail with Rose Petals" (Sunday, November 17, 2024): As the rebels continue their rise, Pedro commits himself to the Revolution, while Gertrudis makes a surprising move of her own. Meanwhile, now living in the same house, Tita and Pedro attempt to steal moments together under Rosaura's watchful eye.

"Atole" (Sunday, November 24, 2024): After learning the extent of Rosaura's betrayal, Tita's fury is put on hold when she's forced to help her sister through a medical crisis.

"Turkey in Mole" (Sunday, December 1, 2024): As Rosaura struggles to bond with Roberto, Elena limits Tita's access to him. Meanwhile, Pedro makes a drastic decision for his freedom.

"Northern-Style Chorizo" (Sunday, December 8, 2024): As devastating news from Rosaura reaches the family, Tita finally rebels against her mother, while Pedro throws himself into battle.
