Plot Synopsis

Written by David E. Kelley and directed by Lesli Linka Glatter, LOVE & DEATH is a seven-episode limited series that tells the true story of Candy and Pat Montgomery and Betty and Allan Gore -- two churchgoing couples enjoying their smalltown Texas life... until an extramarital affair leads somebody to pick up an axe. Despite a loving family, a picture-perfect home, and an active presence at church, Candy is unable to shake her sense of suburban ennui in 1980s Texas. After an unexpectedly charged moment with fellow church member Allan, Candy finds just the risk-taking thrill that's been missing from her life. Their ensuing, meticulously strategized affair unfolds mostly as planned -- until their respective spouses, Pat and Betty, each discover their secret. LOVE & DEATH debuted with three episodes on Thursday, April 27, 2023 on HBO Max, with a new installment dropping each Thursday through May 25.

On Thursday, May 25, 2023, Max released "Ssssshh," the finale of LOVE & DEATH. Despite Don's concerns about her mental ability, Candy testifies that she feared for her life. As they await the verdict, Pat tells Candy their lives will never be the same.
