Plot Synopsis

Created by Jacqui Honess-Martin, MATERNAL is a six-episode medical drama series that follows three friends -- Maryam, Catherine, and Helen -- who face the challenges of balancing motherhood and their jobs in a post-COVID hospital. On her first day back from maternity leave, pediatrician Maryam feels ill-prepared as she's thrust back onto the frontlines. Meanwhile, surgeon Catherine sets her sights on a promotion, and medic Helen's marital problems play out at work. Things start to look up for Catherine when Lars flies in from Sweden to be a father to Elis -- but he also brings his judgmental wife, Brigitta. Maryam fights to control her anxiety on the job, and Helen's sister Debbie reenters her life. MATERNAL made its U.S. debut on Monday, November 18, 2024 on Acorn TV, which released two episodes. Two new installments drop each week on Mondays through December 2.
