Plot Synopsis

1000-LB BEST FRIENDS is a one-hour docuseries that follows two pairs of BFFs, who work together to change their lives. Vannessa and Meghan are larger-than-life best friends, and along with their pals Tina and Ashely, they are battling obesity with heart and humor. This gregarious girl gang embark on a journey of sisterhood, weight loss, and self-discovery. From camping to swimming in the ocean, these friends are determined to get out of the sedentary habits that have led them to where they are now. Whether it's exercise, doctors' appointments or therapy sessions, they'll rely on each other to get through it all. But with four big personalities, they are bound to ruffle each other's feathers. Will the gang be able to overcome their insecurities and self-doubt in time to attend their high school reunion as a fiercely fabulous, united front? Vannessa and Meghan, whom viewers first met on TOO LARGE, were bullied for their weight all the way back in middle school and ever since then, they have had each other's backs. When Meghan peaked at almost 600-lbs, they decided it was time to take control of their lives and pursue weight loss surgery. Meghan qualified while Vannessa didn't, however Meghan's weight loss has stalled out since she went ahead with the surgery. Power comes in numbers and now with Tina and Ashely, they are making a pact and recommitting to their original goal to turn their lives around. Ashely previously underwent weight-loss surgery, but she's put back on all the weight she lost and is once again pursuing surgery to get back on track. Tina, on the other hand, isn't ready to take on the risks of surgery, so she plans to lose the excess weight on her own.

Season 2 of 1000-LB BEST FRIENDS premiered on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 10pm ET/PT on TLC. BFFs Vannessa & Meghan and Tina & Ashely return with heart, humor and waistline struggles as they come together to celebrate the highs and also, battle obesity's lows in an all new season. Even after losing 200 lbs, Meghan struggles with motivation and hopes planning her wedding will get her back on track, but the stress of living with Tina and her family while their house floods may derail them both. Vanessa, the most successful in her weight loss journey, now fears for the life of her obese 19-year-old son, and Ashely must face personal set backs that threaten her chances to qualify for the gastric bypass surgery. The four women are always searching for new and unique ways to push themselves, and each other, physically and mentally. From participating in a 5k to roller skating to bra shopping and a trip to a wellness retreat, this feisty foursome will try anything in their quest for weight loss. Through the meltdowns to the glow-ups and everything in between, they always strive to stick together as BFFs.

1000-LB BEST FRIENDS returned for its third season on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 10pm ET/PT on TLC. Vannessa, Meghan, and Ashely's lifelong friendships are put to the test in an all-new chapter. Since viewers last saw them, a growing rift threatens their 30+ year relationship. Meghan and Ashely feel that Vannessa's continued celebration of her weight loss has turned into gloating, while Vannessa believes her friends are jealous of her success. What seem like irreconcilable differences are brought to light in Dr. Procter's bariatric support group. Here, some of his patients quickly find themselves caught up in the middle of their messy relationships. The new friends include Scott, who comes to Dr. Procter weighing 596 pounds and faces an almost insurmountable challenge to lose enough weight for surgery approval, and Tina, who begins to second-guess her decision when her food addiction derails her progress. Meanwhile, Vannessa continues to hold out hope that she will be approved for skin removal surgery after her transformative weight loss this past year.
