Plot Synopsis

After his college graduation, Joe Kimbreau is faced with a pivotal decision that steers his life down three drastically different paths. The three parallel stories that diverge from that night find Joe and the people around him with different careers, relationships and family lives, showing the unexpected ways that things change -- and stay the same. But when it comes down to it, there is no "right" choice; no matter what happens, Joe's life is always messy, exciting, tough, unpredictable...and beautiful.

From executive producers Russel Friend & Garrett Lerner: "We got to read Matt Reeves' original script at the behest of the good folks at 20th Television, and they were so drawn in by the relatability of the 'what if?' scenario we all face as we move through life. In our initial meeting with Matt, who was now serving as producer, he told us how the script was so personal to him and what he was going through at the time he wrote it. He encouraged us to pour ourselves into it the same way he had, and he embraced any changes that would make the new version into the most personal, real and grounded thing we could write. We moved the show to New York (where Russel is from), connected Cop Joe's story to the events of 9/11, changed a couple of the Joe's career paths, including Rock Star Joe (highlighting Russel's love of music and Billy Joel) and gave Nurse Joe a son who has a disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (something Garrett's son has and dictates a new path in parenting and in life)."

After a six-week break, ORDINARY JOE returned with new episodes on Monday, January 3, 2022 at 10pm ET/PT on NBC. In the winter premiere, "Snow Globe," when Gwen's school chorus honors her with a tribute concert, she reconnects with an old flame. Cop Joe and Amy push each other to confront some hard truths. Music Joe's world is rocked when Amy discloses a big secret. Nurse Joe and Jenny readjust to being long distance after spending the holidays as a family.
