Plot Synopsis
OUTBACK HUNTERS follows the brave men who track and capture saltwater crocodiles in Australia's Northern Territory, as they battle these lethal beasts to protect their communities. In a place where crocs can outnumber humans three to one -- partly because the saltwater crocodile is now a protected species after being hunted to near-extinction -- the Australian government issues permits that allow elite hunters to remove some of the crocs. And during Australia's dry season, these hunters are busy using hand-thrown harpoons to capture crocs. Over the course of 12 weeks, waterways dry up and crocs are on the move, coming into close contact with humans and livestock. The croc hunters are: Mick Burbidge, a chopper pilot, who is using his helicopter to drive 50 head of cattle back to market through a river guarded by a hungry 15-foot crocodile; Karl Goodhand, a crocodile and wild game hunter, who protects neighboring ranchers and Aboriginal communities with Eric Made, an Aboriginal tracker whom Karl calls the best in the world at his job; Paul Henwood, an Aboriginal hunter, who is known as the top tracker in the territory and whose village is being threatened by a croc turf war; Tommy Nichols, a wildlife ranger who knows the crushing power of a croc's jaws because lost half of his hand to a crocodile; Nigel & Palmer, father and son hunters, who are put to the test to capture the meat-eating crocodile; and Mick Pitman, who is one of the most sought after hunters because of his unique set of skills he developed living deep within the bush.
