Plot Synopsis
OUTER BANKS is a one-hour teen drama series that's a coming-of-age story that follows a tight-knit group of local teens (aka the Pogues) in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. When a hurricane kills the power for the summer season, it sets off a chain of illicit events that force the friends to make life-altering decisions. On an island of haves and have-nots, teen John B enlists his three best friends to hunt for a legendary treasure linked to his father's disappearance. The search for John B's missing father, forbidden romances, a high-stakes treasure hunt, and the escalating conflict between the Pogues and their rivals turn their summer into one filled with mystery and adventure they'll never forget. On Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Netflix released the entire 10-episode first season of OUTER BANKS.
The 10-episode second season of OUTER BANKS dropped on Friday, July 30, 2021 on Netflix. With a fortune in gold at stake and their futures on the line, the Pogues rush headlong into danger and a fresh mystery as they face foes old and new. In the season opener, "The Gold," John B tries to evade capture as he zeroes in on the gold, but a promise to Sarah could derail his plans. Back home, his friends face life without him. Then, in "The Heist," John B and Sarah strike an uneasy bargain, while Kiara, JJ and Pope search for evidence that could implicate Ward and Rafe.
After losing the gold and fleeing the Outer Banks, Season 3 finds the Pogues washed ashore on a desert island that, for a brief moment, seems like an idyllic home. Officially deemed "Poguelandia," the island's newest residents spend their days fishing, swimming, and reveling in the carefree lifestyle of their temporary dwelling. But things quickly go south for John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, JJ, and Cleo when they find themselves once again caught up in a race for the treasure, quite literally running for their lives. They're broke and far from home, they can't trust anyone, Ward and Rafe are hungry for revenge, and there's a ruthless Caribbean Don who will stop at nothing to find the bounty. Was the treasure ever within their reach? Or was it all a trap to stop them once and for all? Either way, it's the Pogues against the world -- and the only way out is together. All 10 episodes of OUTER BANKS' third season dropped on Thursday, February 23, 2023 on Netflix.
Season 4 of OUTER BANKS debuted on Thursday, October 10, 2024 on Netflix, which released the first five episodes of the new season. Following last season's 18-month flash-forward showing Wes Genrette's proposal for the Pogues to find Blackbeard's treasure, Season 4 takes viewers back in time to the lead-up of that moment. After finding the gold at El Dorado, the Pogues return to the OBX and commit to having a "normal" life. They've built themselves a new safe haven, officially dubbed "Poguelandia 2.0," where they live together and run a fairly successful bait, tackle, and charter tour shop. But after some financial setbacks, John B, Sarah, Kiara, JJ, Pope, and Cleo take Wes up on his offer, drawn back into the "G" game for a whole new adventure. But before they know it, they're well in over their heads, with dangerous new enemies hot on their heels racing them to the treasure. Meanwhile, their problems are only growing, and they're forced to question their past, present, and future -- who they really are, has it all been worth it, and how much are they willing to risk?

On Thursday, November 7, 2024, Netflix released the final five episodes of Season 4. In the mid-season debut, "The Town Council," JJ learns about his past. The Pogues rally support for a zoning meeting that will decide their fate. Sarah and John B suss out a theory about the scroll.
