Plot Synopsis

Created by Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg, THE PATIENT is a 10-episode psychological thriller about therapist Alan Strauss held prisoner by his patient, Sam Fortner, who reveals himself to be a serial killer. Sam has an unusual therapeutic demand for Alan: curb his homicidal urges. But, with time running out, Alan fights desperately to stop Sam before Alan becomes complicit in Sam's murders or worse -- becomes a target himself. The first two episodes of THE PATIENT dropped on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 on Hulu, with a new episode debuted each Tuesday through October 25. THE PATIENT made its linear television debut with back-to-back episodes from 10-11pm ET/PT on FX on Thursday, April 27, 2023. FX continued to debut back-to-back episodes on Thursday at 10pm through May 25.

On Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 10-11:40pm ET/PT, FX presented the linear television debut of the final two episodes of THE PATIENT:

"Auschwitz" (10pm): Dr. Strauss leaves nothing unsaid; Sam gives it another shot with Mary; an idea sparks for Sam, and everything seems to click together.

"The Cantor's Husband" (10:45pm): For Sam, an unexpected decision shows progress towards his goals, but Dr. Strauss demands even more.
