Plot Synopsis
PEOPLE MAGAZINE PRESENTS: CRIMES OF THE 2000S is a 10-episode series that takes viewers through each year of the 2000s highlighting the most intriguing and chilling crimes of the decade. Each 60-minute episode reveals the true narrative behind some of the most notorious stories, with a new installment debuting each weeknight (Mon-Fri) over a two-week period -- from Monday, August 28 through Friday, September 8.
"2000: Lions, Tigers & Murder" (Monday, August 28, 2023 at 8pm): When an exotic animal keeper vanishes on her way to work at San Diego's Wild Animal Park in the fall of 2000, investigators unearth several suspects, but only one who had ample opportunity to go in for the kill.
"2001: Burning Evil" (Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 8pm): In 2001, a massive explosion decimates a home on a quiet Scottsdale, AZ, street; the bodies of three family members lie amid the rubble, but one key person is missing, and the search goes on for decades.
"2002: The Necktie Killer" (Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 8pm): A spree killer who leaves his victims tied up with neckties torments the men of Atlanta in the fall of 2002. As investigators hit many dead ends, one clue left behind could be the final puzzle piece detectives need to tie these cases together.
"2003: Nightmare In Western Kentucky" (Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 8pm): In 2003, a lively college town in Kentucky faces tragedy after the vicious rape and murder of student Katie Autry; as police sift through the suspect list, two people stand out from the rest; one learns if they play with fire, they will get burned.
"2004: Without a Conscience" (Friday, September 1, 2023 at 8pm): In 2004, three separate murders carried out over two weeks confound California police after they discover the culprit used the same type of gun; detectives first suspect robbery, but as they dig deeper, they unearth a darker motive.
"2005: Prisoners of Love" (Monday, September 4, 2023 at 8pm): A prison nurse falls hard for an inmate, and they start a torrid affair. However, their forbidden secret doesn't stay locked up for long, and in August of 2005, one criminal in the relationship turns into two.
"2006: Bad Company" (Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 8pm): In 2006, in Scottsdale, AZ, a routine house fire sparks a confession of guilt that leads to an unimaginable act of revenge.
"2007: Deep Dark Deception" (Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 8pm): Opposites attract when a young woman with an aversion to deep water marries an ocean-loving boat captain; despite her fears, she decides to accompany her husband on a short boat trip to Bimini -- but they never return.
"2008: The Devil You Know" (Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 8pm): A vivacious young woman marries her long-term love, but he's a pot dealer with many enemies; in 2008, the couple is found dead at their home, but with several potential suspects, finding the killer is not a done deal.
"2009: New Year's Evil" (Friday, September 8, 2023 at 8pm): A 15-year-old high school girl meets a cute new guy through her best friend, and they quickly fall into a romantic relationship; however, as they celebrate New Year's Eve 2009 together, a mysterious double shooting threatens to break them up forever.
