Plot Synopsis
As Hollywood's best professional fixer, Ray Donovan is called in to solve the complicated, confidential and controversial problems of the city's elite. He can make anyone's problem disappear, except the ones created by his own family: his wife, Abby; his father, Mickey; Terry, his brother, a skilled former boxer who, despite his Parkinson's diagnosis, hasn't lost his fighting spirit; younger brother Bunchy, a troubled alcoholic who is haunted after being sexually abused; and his daughter, Bridget. Along with Lena, his trusted second-in-command, and Ezra, his mentor and confidante, Ray solves the biggest problems for the City of Angels' movers and shakers, such as: Sean Stevens, a major movie star with a mysterious connection to Ray's past; Ashley Rucker, a young star under Ray's protection; and Lee, an L.A. power broker and frequent client.
RAY DONOVAN returned for its second season on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on Showtime with 12 one-hour episodes in Season 2, which explored the fallout of Sully's murder for Ray, his father Mickey and the FBI, headed by LA Bureau Chief Cochran (guest star Hank Azaria). As the season unfolds, Ray continues to seek balance between the demands of his family, including his volatile relationship with Mickey, and those of his Hollywood clients. On Sunday, September 28, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT, Showtime debuted the Season 2 finale of RAY DONOVAN. In the season ender, "The Captain," Mickey hatches a new plan, while Abby is torn between Ray and Jim.
Showtime premiered the third season of RAY DONOVAN on Sunday, July 12, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT. Season 3 finds Ray adrift from his family and those closest to him, while he focuses on his business and desires to be his own boss. Meanwhile, his father Mickey, who had narrowly escaped last season's heist debacle, finds himself charting a similar course to build his own empire. Joining the show this season are guest stars Ian McShane, Katie Holmes and Elliott Gould.
Showtime premiered Season 4 of RAY DONOVAN on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT. Last season's intense battle with the Armenian mafia leads a wounded Ray to reconnect with his forsaken faith. With this second chance at redemption, Ray is on a path to becoming a much better husband and father. But while things at home are improving, his work introduces him to worlds more formidable and dangerous than ever before. Meanwhile, Mickey has fled Los Angeles, hoping to plant roots on his own terms and to begin anew, one scam at a time. Guest stars featured in Season 4 include Emmy nominee Lisa Bonet, Embeth Davidtz, Ted Levine, Gabriel Mann, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Chris Coppola and Billy Lush.
Season 5 of RAY DONOVAN premiered on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT on Showtime. The new season finds Ray turning his attention back to Hollywood and his celebrity fixer firm. Meanwhile, Mickey is overjoyed to at last be welcomed into Ray's home and swears to finally mend his criminal ways. Joining the series in a season-long arc is Oscar winner and four-time Emmy-nominated actress Susan Sarandon as legendary media mogul Samantha Winslow, who sets Ray against her own fixers in fear they may know too much. Additional Season 5 guest stars include Brian White, Adina Porter, Rhys Coiro, Lili Simmons, Tara Buck, C. Thomas Howell, and Dominique Columbus. The fifth season opens with the "Abby" episode, as Ray begins court-ordered anger management after a bar fight; Mickey, Bunchy and Daryll prepare for a wedding; Bridget looks up an acquaintance in New York; Conor adjusts to military school; a new employer comes into Ray's life.
The sixth season of RAY DONOVAN premiered on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at 9pm ET/PT on Showtime. Ray rebuilds his life both personally and professionally in New York City. After being rescued from a plummet into the East River, his savior, a cop named Mac, brings Ray into the fraternity that is the Staten Island Police Department. While exploring this new world of brotherhood and corruption, Ray finds himself once again working for media mogul Sam Winslow. Sam has teamed up with New York City mayoral candidate Anita Novak, a partnership that puts Ray at odds with his new friends out in Staten Island. Consisting of 12 episodes, the sixth season relocates from Los Angeles, where it has been based for the past five seasons, to New York City when production began in early 2018, following an intensely emotional Season 5 that found Ray in turmoil and needing to rebuild his life anew. "For our show, creatively, New York is exciting. Fashion, media, finance, theatre, culture. It's going to present new challenges for Ray Donovan which mean new opportunities for us as dramatists," said showrunner David Hollander. "Ray came to Los Angeles to build a life for himself and his family. They're not there anymore. Ray's career has changed and he is looking for a place to rebuild his life. Ray thinks he went to New York to help his daughter. He's going to find out he's there to help himself."
RAY DONOVAN returned for its seventh season on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at 8pm ET/PT on Showtime. Season 7 finds Ray working to be the man his family needs him to be. While he makes progress with Dr. Amiot, there are dangers from the past that require the Ray Donovan of old. Between NYC mayor Ed Feratti, an unrelenting NYPD officer hunting for the truth and clients old and new, Ray struggles to find the balance between fixing for clients and fixing himself. And when Feratti's corruption brings a piece of Mickey's past back to New York, Ray is forced to seek answers to long-buried questions. Meanwhile, Bunchy, hoping for a fresh start, bunks in Ray's apartment and works stocking shelves at a pharmacy. Terry is offered a new, unconventional healing opportunity. Daryll struggles to figure out where he fits into the Donovan clan. Bridget and Smitty face the realities of married life. In the season opener, "Faith. Hope. Love. Luck.," Ray brings Mickey to the FBI to turn himself in. Four months later, when one of the police officers' heads turns up and Ray and his family are implicated in the murder, Ray finds his work with his therapist threatening to unravel. Meanwhile, Mayor Feratti is back to his corrupt ways with increasingly unsavory jobs for Ray, including blackmailing a powerful family from the Donovans' Boston past.
