Plot Synopsis
STAR TREK: DISCOVERY follows the voyages of Starfleet on their missions to discover new worlds and new life forms, and one Starfleet officer who must learn that to truly understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself. Michael Burnham is the First Officer, and her razor-sharp logic and intellect is a result of her Vulcan upbringing. The Starfleet Captain of the Starship Discovery is Captain Gabriel Lorca, a formidable leader with a decisive charisma that hides many secrets. Lieutentant Paul Stamets is an astromycologist (aka fungus expert), who's the Starfleet Science Officer aboard the Starship Discovery. His counterpart, Lieutenant Ash Tyler, is a Starfleet Officer in the federation, who, as a prisoner of war, has seen the dark side of the Starfleet's battle with the Klingons. On the Klingon side, T'Kuvma is their leader, trying to unite the 24 Klingon houses. One of these houses -- the House of Kor -- is led be Kol. STAR TREK: DISCOVERY premiered on Sunday, September 24, 2017 on CBS Television Network at 8:30pm ET/PT, with the second episode available online immediately afterward on CBS All Access. Following the premiere, new episodes are released weekly on Sundays for CBS All Access subscribers through mid-November, concluding the first chapter of Season 1. After a two-month break, STAR TREK: DISCOVERY returned for the second half of Season 1 on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at 8:30pm ET/5:30pm PT on CBS All Access. The first nine episodes of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY are currently available to stream on CBS All Access, and the second chapter begins with episode 10, "Despite Yourself." While in unfamiliar territory, the U.S.S. Discovery crew is forced to get creative in their next efforts to survive opposing and unprecedented forces and return home.
The 14-episode second season of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY premiered on January 17, 2019 at 8:30pm ET/5:30pm PT on CBS All Access. After answering a distress signal from the U.S.S. Enterprise, Season 2 finds the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery joining forces with Captain Christopher Pike on a new mission to investigate seven mysterious red signals and the appearance of an unknown being called the Red Angel. While the crew must work together to unravel their meaning and origin, Michael Burnham is forced to face her past with the return of her estranged brother, Spock.
Season 3 of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY premiered on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as CBS All Access released the first episode of the 13-episode new season. After following Commander Burnham into the wormhole in the second season finale, Season 3 of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY finds the U.S.S. Discovery crew landing into an unknown future far from the home they once knew. Now living in a time filled with uncertainty, the U.S.S. Discovery crew, along with the help of some new friends, must work together to restore hope to the Federation. The season premiere, "That Hope Is You (Part 1)," opens 930 years in the future, where Burnham navigates a galaxy she no longer recognizes while searching for the rest of the U.S.S. Discovery crew.
The fourth season of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY premiered on Thursday, November 18, 2021, as Paramount+ released the first episode of the new season. Season 4 finds Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery facing a threat unlike any they've ever encountered. With Federation and non-Federation worlds alike feeling the impact, they must confront the unknown and work together to ensure a hopeful future for all. In the season opener, "Kobayashi Maru," after months spent reconnecting the Federation with distant worlds, Captain Michael Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery are sent to assist a damaged space station -- a seemingly routine mission that reveals the existence of a terrifying new threat. After a six-week break, STAR TREK: DISCOVERY returned with new episodes on Thursday, February 10, 2022 on Paramount+. In the winter premiere, "All In," following a hunch, Captain Burnham tracks Book to an old haunt from their courier days and gets drawn into a high-stakes competition for a powerful weapon.
STAR TREK: DISCOVERY returned for its fifth and final season on Thursday, April 4, 2024 on Paramount+, which released the first two episodes of the new season. Season 5 finds Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery uncovering a mystery that will send them on an epic adventure across the galaxy to find an ancient power whose very existence has been deliberately hidden for centuries. But there are others on the hunt as well... dangerous foes who are desperate to claim the prize for themselves and will stop at nothing to get it.
