Plot Synopsis

Narrated by Ewan McGregor, STORMBORN is a three-episode documentary series that travels to the northernmost edge of the Atlantic to a land of rough seas, wild gales, and formidable odds to watch the seasons change and chronicle how the animal inhabitants of this icy enclave not only survive but thrive in an extreme environment.

STORMBORN had its U.S. debut on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 8pm ET/PT on Smithsonian Channel. In the series opener, "Out of the Darkness," winter slowly releases its iron grip on the North Atlantic, an the episode features a family of playful otters, a lovelorn Arctic fox, and a reindeer herd determined to reach their calving grounds despite the fearsome weather.

On Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at 8pm ET/PT, Smithsonian Channel premiered the finale of STORMBORN. The series ender, "Children of the Storm," welcomes autumn to the North Atlantic, when its animals struggle to prepare for winter. The episode also traces the grey seals' mating frenzy and witnessing the horrific price one seal pup must pay; meanwhile, reindeer undertake a perilous swim along their migration path.
