Plot Synopsis

This comedy series goes behind the scenes of Latin America's most beloved Spanish language soap opera, where its star, popular diva Ana Sofia, strives to stay on top in a world where the drama off-camera is better than it is on-camera. And there's one problem, she doesn't speak any Spanish. Her co-star, Gael, is a masculine soap celebrity who happens to be gay, married and not in the closet. She's the target of Isabela, an aging but beautiful actress trying to pass for 28, who blames Ana for the fact that she is no longer a leading lady. Ana is best friends with Mimi and her other co-stars include: bad guy Rodrigo; and superstar heartthrob Xavier, who also happens to be her ex-husband. On Monday, December 7, 2015 from 10-11pm ET/PT, NBC premiered back-to-back episodes of TELENOVELA as a series sneak peek. In the first episode (10pm), "Pilot," Ana is taken by surprise when her ex-husband, Xavi, joins the cast of her popular telenovela. With the help of her best friends and co-workers, Mimi and Gael, Ana sets out to prove that she is still in charge. Then, in the second episode (10:30pm), "Evil Twin," Ana doesn't like her co-workers having secrets and tries to implement an "open book" policy at work. Things get crazy when a workplace romance and a surprise visitor put that policy to the test. NBC broadcast a third sneak-peek episode, "Trapped in a Well," on Monday, December 28, 2015 at 9:30pm. TELENOVELA had its official series premiere on Monday, January 4, 2016 at 8:30pm ET/PT on NBC. In this new episode, "The Kiss," Ana finds out that her work dinner with her boss, James (guest star Zachary Levi), is actually a date, so she uses some "enhancements" to win him over. Meanwhile, the cast becomes worried that there is a ghost haunting the soundstage, but Xavi is skeptical.

NBC premiered the season finale of TELENOVELA on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 8:30pm ET/PT. In the season ender, "The Stalker," Xavi asks Ana for a cup of coffee to talk about their relationship. When he doesn't show, Ana fears the worst. The cast tries to impress Isaac, who is working on a script for next year's telenovela.
